As a student, thinker, and someone who strives to create a more sustainable and equitable future, the current methods of educating our people and preparing them to become leaders, dreamers, and doers cannot stand. For too long we have accepted an unjust and outdated education machine that works for the few and not for the many. Even in Europe, where advancements in education have far surpassed those in the U.S., there is still a lot of work to be done. How can we be satisfied with our education systems while, according to Gallup polling samples from 2011 and 2012, 63 percent of people worldwide are “not engaged” in their jobs? How can we ignore the realities of climate change, mental health, and changing demographics without giving the citizens of the world sufficient means of dealing with these modern calamities? How can we afford to confuse and stress our students with decontextualized nonsense and draconian evaluation techniques?
